Numerical Analysis of a Dual-Layer Geosynthetic-Encased Stone Column Installed in Soft Soil

Stone columns are being used to reduce soft soil settlement and increase load-carrying capacity. Since there is inadequate lateral support from the local native soil, undergoes excessive under vertical loading. This issue effectively resolved by suitably encasing stone column material geosynthetic with significant axial stiffness, which provides required additional confinement reported in literature. In current study, an effort has been made examine load behaviour of dual-layered geosynthetic-encased (DL-GESC) order simulate column-reinforced a FEM analysis was performed using PLAXIS-3D three-dimensional (3D) models utilising unit cell idealisation technique for single column. The diameter, spacing diameter (s/d) ratio, encasement layers were varied determine their influence on load-settling behaviour. capacity ground significantly improved when layer inserted into as compared SL-GESC.
